Unity is more than a village in Kenya: it's a shelter for women who have escaped abuse. The women there are good friends of mine. When I heard what's happening to them, my heart broke.
Kenya is experiencing a three-year drought -- the worst drought they've seen in decades. I've kept in touch with the women since I visited them last year, and I knew they were struggling with the drought, but I only just found out that many of their goats have died and the women can't sleep at night because they are so hungry.
Twenty women. Sixty children. Ten babies. It only costs $30 to feed all of them for one day.
I'm asking for enough funds to keep their bellies full and their animals alive until the rains come. Anything we raise above our goal will either go to another village or be saved for the next dry season when they will likely go hungry again. I am reaching out to locals and other organizations to find more sustainable solutions, but for now, we just need your help to get through a rough time.
I can't abandon these women in their hour of need. They have no help from husbands, their kids are not old enough to support them, and few of them have other jobs. I can only do so much by myself. A small contribution from you will mean so much to them, and to me.
